"Example"

Devised by the Belgrade Theatre in Education Company

Date: Spring 2000

Venue: Memorial Hall

The Lower School Play in Spring 2000 was 'Example', a play devised by the Belgrade Theatre in Education Group. It is a powerful play telling the story of Derek Bentley, the nineteen-year-old hanged in 1953 for a murder he did not commit. In May 1999, Derek Bentley's only surviving relatives were suddenly awarded compensation for his miscarriage of justice, sadly a year after the death of his sister, Iris, who fought for his reprieve right up until her death.

The Lower School rose to the challenge of this production magnificently and produced a show that was thought-provoking and touching while still having touches of humour and great humanity. It was impossible to see the play and remain unmoved!
