Chairs, Cushions and Chamsys

So into our second and final *gulp* rehearsal week..
This evening we had an excellent session which more or less had Sam and Sam trying to organise the handling of chairs and cushions while poor George had to spend a lot of time falling down, only to stand back up to fall down again!
Josh and I keep trying to find the optimum angle in V2 in which to arrange the set. The traditional end-on approach gives us plenty of depth but no width. We then tried placing the set lengthways in the room but that gave us yards of room to move sideways but no depth! Opting for a triangular approach (using the end wall and 2/3rds of a long wall) we thought at first to have found the perfect solution only to discover that it still really didn’t give us the depth needed in the centre of the stage and most of the audience would have to spend the time craning their necks to see most of the action. Over the last two days the triangular shaped stage has got smaller but deeper and this evening we think we have at last found the perfect shape to fit in the action that happens onstage.
There is a lot to build set-wise (new flats, book cases and small bits of furniture) and a lot of the material required is on the Mem Hall stage attached, in-place, doing a very good job of being part of the main stage set that I put up three years ago. It has to come down for Miss Saigon anyway however the update in Annabel’s is taking ages and the stage scaff tower is missing the whole top section (it disappeared last summer) so how we will ever reach the top of the set remains to be scene..
On a happier note I have decided (along with the Tech Crew) that we will be using Chamsys Lighting desks at Dauntsey’s from now on. This will replace the Mem Hall’s misbehaving desk and put the same desk system into Annabel’s and V2 so students will only have to learn one (very good) lighting system. To start off the investment I have placed an order today for the smallest desk (which is ultimately for V2), this we will try out for the first time on Saturday for Open Day and then move the system into V2 for our play. All being well we will then look at which desks we will want permentaly in the Mem and Annabel’s.
